Best of ATX 2025 & 2026 ยท Austin Monthly

Austin's Best Liquor Store, Two Years Running

Best Bottle Shop, Best of ATX 2025 - Editors' Choice. First place, Liquor/Wine Store, Best of ATX 2026 - Readers' Choice.

The spirits wall at Goodnight Cowboy, shelves of whiskey, agave and amaro running the length of the shop

Austin Monthly has put Goodnight Cowboy at the top of the city twice: once chosen by its editors, once voted by its readers. We soft-opened on Manor Road in the spring of 2025 to do one thing - run the kind of bottle shop we always wanted to walk into.

2025: the editors picked us

In Best of ATX 2025: Dining & Nightlife, Austin Monthly's editors named Goodnight Cowboy Best Bottle Shop. We had been open about four months.

2026: Austin voted

In August 2026, out of more than 50,000 nominations and 131,000 votes cast in Best of ATX - the readers' choice awards presented by Austin Monthly and the Austin American-Statesman - Goodnight Cowboy took first place in the Liquor/Wine Store category.

The story behind the shop

Austin Monthly ran a feature on us the week we opened. It covers how Adam Rios and Zach Hill - who had worked on the branding and marketing team that launched The Sphere in Las Vegas - came to name a Manor Road bottle shop after the Texas Ranger Charles Goodnight, and why they filled it with leather, cowhide and antlers instead of fluorescent light.

Curation over clutter

Every bottle on our shelves is there for a reason. Texas-made spirits, small-producer wine, hard-to-find craft beer - picked by people who taste what they sell and will happily tell you why.

A shop, and a parlour

Most liquor stores are a transaction. We built a room worth lingering in: order an espresso or a non-alcoholic drink while you browse, sit at the big wooden table in the middle, come back for a tasting or one of the nights we host around it. The staff would rather ask what you are cooking than point you down an aisle.
